Starr
County Memorial Hospital Socio-economics and
Demographics:
Starr
County Memorial District operates Starr County
Memorial Hospital (SCMH) located at 2753
Hospital Court, Rio Grande City, Texas. SCMH
is a progressive, acute-care general medical
center offering medical, surgical, obstetric
and pediatric services. Established in 1975,
SCMH is licensed by the State of Texas and
accredited by CMS.
It is a member of the Texas Hospital
Association, American Hospital Association,
and the Texas Organization of Rural and
Community Hospitals.
Starr
County Memorial District was created by a
special act of the 62 Texas Legislature in
1972 pursuant of the authority granted to the
Legislature by Article 9 Section 9 of the
Texas Constitution. The District is governed
by a five-member Board of Directors elected by
the voters of the District to serve two-year
terms. Elections are held the in May of each
year.
Starr
County Memorial has been serving the needs of
Starr County since 1975. Currently, SCMH is
licensed as a 49
bed acute-care medical center. Several
renovations have been made to the facility
including an addition to the Laboratory
Department, an expansion to add space to the
Emergency Department and a new wing to provide
more space to the Obstetrics Department. The
Emergency Department is certified as a Level 4
Trauma Center. Additional space for a
Cat-scan
unit was provided. SCMH now has three Rural
Health Clinics.
We also offer outpatient lab services
at an off Campus location.
