Bone Densitometry Examinations

We at Starr County Memorial Hospital are pleased to announce the addition of new services which will enable us to better serve our community's health. SCMH will be providing Bone Densitometry Examinations (bone density exams).

What is a bone density exam?
A bone density test determines if you have osteoporosis - a disease that causes bones to become more fragile and more likely to break. Doctors use bone density testing to:

  • Identify decreases in bone density before you break a bone

  • Determine your risk of broken bones (fractures)

  • Confirm a diagnosis of osteoporosis

  • Monitor osteoporosis treatment.

  • The test usually takes about 10 to 30 minutes.
Tests will be conducted at our Imaging Center. Once you have received orders from your physician please call 956-487-4335 to schedule an appointment. Office hours are M-F 8:00 am- 5:00 pm.
