Director of Nursing - Nursing
POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Nursing (DON) to provide strong clinical leadership and oversee the day-to-day operations of our nursing department. The Director of Nursing will be responsible for ensuring high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, staff development, and effective clinical operations.
The ideal candidate is a proven nursing leader who is committed to excellence, patient safety, team development, and creating a culture of accountability and compassionate care.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas with a master’s degree in nursing or healthcare administration.
• Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience, with demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.
• Previous experience as a Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, Nurse Manager, or comparable nursing leadership role preferred.
• Strong knowledge of nursing standards, clinical practices, quality improvement, and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, motivate, and retain nursing staff.
• Current CPR/BLS certification as required.
• Hospital, or other applicable healthcare experience preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience with state and federal healthcare surveys and regulatory compliance.
• Experience with Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI).
• Experience managing nursing budgets and staffing.
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and clinical documentation system
• Strong knowledge of Texas healthcare regulations and licensing requirements
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Direct and oversee all nursing services and clinical operations.
• Ensure patients/residents receive safe, high-quality, evidence-based care.
• Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate nursing staff.
• Develop and maintain appropriate staffing levels and schedules.
• Monitor nursing performance, clinical outcomes, and quality indicators.
• Ensure compliance with applicable Texas Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), federal, and other regulatory requirements.
• Maintain compliance with facility policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
• Lead quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
• Review clinical documentation and ensure accurate and timely completion of medical records.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, administrators, residents/patients, and families.
• Respond promptly to clinical concerns, incidents, complaints, and changes in patient condition.
• Develop and implement staff education and competency programs.
• Promote infection prevention and control practices.
• Monitor medication management and other clinical processes as appropriate.
• Participate in surveys, audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.
• Establish a positive workplace culture focused on teamwork, professionalism, accountability, and resident/patient-centered care.
• Maintain effective communication with leadership and other departments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
