Hospital Insurance Biller - SCMH Insurance Department

Hospital Insurance Biller is responsible for managing the processing and submission of medical insurance claims for a hospital. Their role is crucial for ensuring that the hospital is reimbursed for the services provided to patients.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Claims Processing: Prepare and submit insurance claims for patient services in a timely and accurate manner.
2. Insurance Verification: Verify patients’ insurance coverage details and eligibility prior to service delivery.
3. Billing Management: Ensure that all charges are accurately billed according to established guidelines and billing regulations.
4. Follow-Up: Monitor, track, and follow up on insurance claims status to ensure prompt payment.
5. Patient Communication: Communicate with patients regarding their insurance coverage, billing inquiries, and payment processes.
6. Reconciliation: Review and reconcile bills and payments, ensuring proper documentation to resolve discrepancies.
7. Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate records of claims submissions, payments, and outstanding accounts.
8. Compliance: Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and insurance requirements when submitting claims and handling sensitive patient information.

Qualifications:
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework in medical coding, billing, or healthcare administration is preferred.
• Experience: 3 years of previous experience in medical billing or coding, particularly in a hospital setting, is an advantage.
• Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent analytical skills, proficiency in medical billing software, and good communication skills.
• Knowledge: Understanding of medical terminology, payer requirements, and federal/state billing regulations.

Certifications:
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
• Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS)
• Certified Procedural Coder (CPC)
