Gastrointestinal (GI) Department

At Starr County Memorial Hospital we provide outpatient GI services three times a week. Our GI department performs more than 1,500 procedures a year for the community members of Starr County. Our Gastroenterologists are Dr. K. Ahsan (who has been providing services in Starr County for more than 15 years). Dr. Cardenas, Dr. Herrera, and Dr. Behara also provide patient care to our wonderful community once a week. Procedures offered to our community range from endoscopies and colonoscopies to insertion of feeding tube.

For GI, we ask patients to register no more than one week before procedure is scheduled for. Patients should come to the front desk (admitting) with their order and further instructions will be given. Each physician will give you the specific orders to follow before the procedure can be done. Some patients that are taking anticoagulants must need to stop them for a few days. Our procedures are done on an outpatient basis and do not require overnight stays, however, this is dependent on the patient's condition.

After the procedure is completed, the physician and nurse will provide detailed instructions for home care.
If you have any questions, please call our GI department at (956) 370-6816 (Monday-Thursday).
